The Toddler Classroom
18 months to 3 years
Pennington Montessori’s Toddler program accepts children aged 18 months to 3 years (occasionally children may move up to Pre-Primary before turning 3) and is designed to encourage independence, respect, socialization and language development – the foundational elements of exceptional character and academic excellence a child will take with them as they mature.
The Toddler day is structured in such as way as to appeal to a child’s internal sense of order and penchant for routine, as well as their inherent desire to learn and try new activities. Much time is spent learning critical independence skills though materials and activities that teach the children how to execute everyday tasks on their own. Understanding that toddlers are very sensitive to language, we constantly strive to enrich each child’s vocabulary, using books and songs as a fun way to help them learn. We also encourage social interaction and respect by giving the children the correct words to share their feelings and needs.
Children are treated to special instruction in areas such as music and outdoor education outside of their classroom several times a week.
Barring inclement weather, Toddler children go outside for ample amounts of time every day to play, explore and garden. In addition, several times a week, students are treated to special instruction in areas such as music and outdoor education. Children who attend in the afternoons are lulled to their naps with soothing music and darkened classrooms. Mats and bedding for naptime are provided by the school.
All of our Toddler Teachers have been trained and accredited by the American Montessori Society (AMS), with a specialization in teaching the Infant/Toddler age-group.
