The Toddler Classroom

13 months to 30 months

Pennington Montessori’s Toddler program accepts children aged 13 months to 30 months and is designed to encourage independence, respect, socialization and language development – the foundational elements of exceptional character and academic excellence a child will take with them as they mature.IMG_3980

The Toddler day is structured in such as way as to appeal to a child’s internal sense of order and penchant for routine, as well as their inherent desire to learn and try new activities.  Much time is spent learning critical independence skills though materials and activities that teach the children how to execute everyday tasks on their own.  Understanding that toddlers are very sensitive to language, we constantly strive to enrich each child’s vocabulary, using books and songs as a fun way to help them learn.  We also encourage social interaction and respect by giving the children the correct words to share their feelings and needs.

Children are treated to special instruction in areas such as yoga and outdoor education outside of their classroom several times a week.

Barring inclement weather, Toddler children go outside for ample amounts of time every day to play, explore and garden.  In addition, several times a week, students are treated to special instruction in areas such as music and outdoor education.  Children who attend in the afternoons are soothed to their naps with soothing music and darkened classrooms. Mats and bedding for naptime are provided by the school.
