Programs & Tuition

The Pennington Montessori School application process is designed to give parents a full understanding of the school and what it has to offer, as well as answer any questions along the way.

Montessori Programs

Pennington Montessori is a private preschool offering enrollment to children aged 6 weeks to Kindergarten. We have both full and part-time enrollment options during the standard school year, September to June. Students enrolled in the school year program are invited to participate in our Summer camp program which runs from June to August but this is not included in the school year tuition. Information about Summer camp will be sent to our students in March. Tuition programs and fees will be updated each year. Please contact the admissions department to inquire about availability: admissionsinfo@penningtonmontessori.org

Nurturing the curious minds of children aged 6 weeks to Kindergarten.

Walk into a Montessori classroom anywhere in the world, and you will invariably see happy and busy children engaged in purposeful work. The classroom itself is distinct: typically beautiful and enticing, but also characterized by the carefully prepared environment designed to reinforce the child’s independence and natural urge toward self-development.

The room, the equipment, activities and the teachers respond to and guide children in ways that directly relate to their own developmental levels. In essence, the classroom provides an environment in which each child is respected and enabled to grow and learn at his or her own pace.

The elements of all Montessori classrooms are simple and effective, yet nurturing and engaging.

Infant & Explorer Program (6W-18M)

A Montessori environment understand the uniqueness of each infant

It is a teacher’s job to assess and learn from observation what the infant’s and parent’s needs are in order to forge a successful partnership. Through an initial observation with you and your child, the teacher learns how you hold your infant, how you play with them, how you put them to sleep, how you quiet them, change them, feed them. While observing you with your infant, the teacher learns your preferences in parenting and will mirror that routine for your baby in the classroom. This helps make each child feel safe and loved and that their experience at Pennington Montessori School is just an extension of their home life!

As the child changes, their environment will reflect their needs. An infant has many physical, emotional and intellectual developmental needs. The Teacher’s job is to keep up with your child’s growth in each area. Through observation, the teacher will assess if your infant is ready for the next step of their development. Our classroom environment will change as the infants are ready for new
milestones and challenges.

Key to a Montessori infant classroom is peace. Teachers will project calmness toward all infants and each other when speaking. Low lighting and soft music also make for a serene and soothing environment. We must be kind, respectful and always model desired behavior. Diaper changing and all physical contact is done while using language, letting the baby know that they will be moved or what will be happening in the next steps. If there is a choice, the child will be asked permission to be picked up, fed, or given a diaper change. During whatever action a Montessori teacher is engaging in with
her students, it will be described and talked about to provide the beginnings of conversation.

Overview:

Toddler Program (18M – 3 years)

The Montessori Toddler classrom is designed to encourage independence, the child’s inner sense of order, socialization, and language development

Sense of Order

Toddlers have a very strong sense of order. Each material has its own place and is always returned there. The class is run on the same schedule every day. Being able to expect what comes next helps the Toddler
feel safe, engaged, and confident.

Independence

Through the Practical Life area in the classroom, the children are presented materials and activities that will develop skills to enable them to do everyday tasks by themselves. Upon arriving each day, Toddlers will
identify their cubby, take off and hang up their coat or backpack, remove
their lunch, snacks, water bottle and put them in the proper place. They will aid in daily attendance by identifying their picture and place it in the
“present” slot. They will be able to choose work while the rest of their classmates file in before the whole class meets for morning circle time.

This independence continues throughout the Toddler’s day, choosing their own work, putting their coats on themselves, they even active participants in their toilet training. Ultimately, these early building blocks of independence help Toddlers feel prepared for new challenges and able to meet and exceed them those challenges with confidence.

Socialization

In our classroom we encourage social interaction by giving our students the correct words to use to share their feelings. Learning to be gracious and courteous to one another is a focus of the Montessori method as being kind and treating friends with respect helps to foster a very warm and nurturing environment for all to learn in.

Language Development

The toddler is very sensitive to language. At circle time, songs are sung and books are read to enrich the child’s vocabulary. The work available to children in a Toddler classroom helps to engage their natural curiosity to not only identify objects but to be able to articulate their name. Toddler teachers will sit down or kneel to the Toddler’s eye level vs. standing over them when speaking. This encourages the Toddler to feel a part of the learning process as it helps them to be able to mimic sounds and words that their teacher is using.

Overview:

Pre-Primary Program (3Y – Kindergarten)

The Montessori Pre-Primary classroom consists of a 3 year cycle, culminating in a mastery of critical thinking skills necessary to achieve success in future challenges. Students remain with the same teacher, in the same classsroom throughout their time in the program. Children do not move from classroom to classroom each school year.

The Pre-Primary classroom consists of a mixed age group. This grouping enables
children to learn from and help each other without the pressure of competition.
Practical life activities such as buttoning, pouring and washing, enable the young
child to acquire a wide range of skills necessary in building the child’s self-image as
a successful, capable person. The basic readiness skills and concepts necessary for reading, writing and math are developed in a broadly based program which includes science, outdoor education, movement, social studies and geography.

The range of activities in each classroom can satisfy both the youngest child’s interest in concrete manipulative material and the older child’s increasing understanding of
abstract concepts. The Pre-Primary program is based on a three-year cycle. Parents are strongly encouraged to have their child remain through the entire three year cycle in order to maximize the benefits of this highly sensitive time.
